Epica Stainless Steel Citrus Juicer Review

If you’re in search of a simple citrus juicer for everyday home use without having to worry about waking the kids or neighbors up, the Epica whisper-quiet 70 Watt citrus juicer is a good contender.

It includes 2 reamers so that you can juice anything from small limes to large grapefruits. All you need to do is swap the reamer as required.

If you’re worried about the use of BPA plastic, you shouldn’t worry much as the reamer is the only plastic part and it is built of solid plastic which probably has lower BPA content. Moreover, there is barely any change in temperature during operation so this shouldn’t be an issue at all.

Performance

There’s no option to control the level of pulp in the juice, the strainer can’t be opened or closed. It’s got fixed width. You do end up having very little pulp in your juice. So, if you’re looking for completely pulp free juice you’re going to need to use an external strainer after juicing your fruit. On the other hand, if you do need to add pulp you could always scoop some away from the strainer and mix it up with your juice

Another point I’d like to highlight is that the pulp is still fairly moist once the machine has done its job. So it’s not really the most efficient of machines. For home use like around 6 – 8 oranges at a time, you don’t need to worry about the spout being clogged at all.

Ease of Use

There’s no need to worry about messing up your countertop anymore as the juicer is hefty and remains steady even under operation. You don’t need to hold it firm or place a towel underneath to prevent it from rotating – this is one of the best features of this model, I must say.

Any container under 7 inches in height can be placed below the spout to collect juice. The reamer only spins in one direction, unlike various other citrus juicers which switch direction every time you release and re-apply pressure.

If you’re concerned about arthritis, these answers may be helpful.

Durability

The reamers are manufactured using a sort of plastic, however the strainer and the entire body of the juicer is stainless-steel. Since all the parts can be dismantled and are basically plastic and metal, they should be dishwasher friendly; however, the manual does specify that they aren’t. Most people do place the strainer, collector and reamer in their dishwashers and haven’t come across any problems though.

Pros

  • Quick juice extraction
  • Works on small as well as large citrus fruit

  • Pulp content cannot be controlled
